The Pet Parent Hotline is your lifeline to practical solutions for the real-life chaos of pet parenting because you didn’t sign up for nonstop barking, cats peeing on the kitchen counter, 2 a.m. Googling, and vet bills that wreck your budget.
I’m Amy Castro, animal rescuer, communication expert, speaker, writer, and former vet assistant who’s fostered over 4,000 animals (yes, really). I’m also the founder of Starlight Outreach and Rescue and host of this weekly podcast that helps overwhelmed pet parents find their footing again.
I created this show because no one tells you what pet parenting is actually like. Behind the adorable adoption photos is a messy, exhausting reality, and it’s one too many people face alone.
If you’ve ever whispered, "I love my pets, but I’m drowning here," this is the podcast for you.
You’re the default caretaker. The one who cleans the accidents, schedules the vet visits, remembers the flea meds, and cancels your plans because no one else notices the dog’s limping or the cat’s stopped eating. Whether you’re managing it all solo or doing 90 percent of the work in a "shared" household, you’re the glue holding it all together.
But loving your pets shouldn’t mean losing your sanity. And you don’t have to choose between their needs and your own.
Each week you’ll get:
✔ Judgment-free advice for navigating your pet’s behavior, health, and day-to-day care
✔ Strategies to get your family to help with pet responsibilities
✔ Stories from experts, rescuers, and real pet parents who’ve been through it too
✔ Solutions that work for your real life, not some Pinterest-perfect version of it
✔ And always, the reminder that you’re not alone
You can raise great pets without losing yourself in the process. You can have a home that feels peaceful again. You can enjoy life with your pets, not just survive it.
New episodes drop every week. Hit follow, bring your sense of humor, and let’s get real about life with pets together.
Our goal is to build episodes around your questions and concerns, so please reach out and share them with me at amy@petparenthotline.com, through our contact form, or by clicking the microphone icon at the bottom right of this page to leave us a voicemail.
